Ranch Manager

Matt Thompson was born and raised in the piney woods around Huntsville, Texas where his love of the outdoors began as soon as he was able to follow his father into the field. While other kids were playing sports and participating in extra-curricular activities at school, he could always be found at the deer lease or chasing some species of fish or fowl on the nearby Trinity River. Matt graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ag Business. Unsure what he wanted to do next, an opportunity presented itself to work on a hunting ranch in Maverick County along the South Texas border. This is where he discovered his true passion in life – guiding and managing a whitetail deer herd in the brush country of South Texas. Matt witnessed the vast improvements in the quality of deer as a result of intense management practices as well as sharing in the excitement of the successful hunters he guided. Matt’s 8 years of experience in his previous ranch management role makes him a great asset to the daily High Cotton ranch operations. His knowledge of wildlife and passion for the outdoors will greatly enhance the experience of the clients who visit and hunt the ranch.
